VTCT Skills is committed to supporting the Hairdressing and Barbering sector in Scotland. We are exploring the development of a SCQF Level 7 qualification to meet the growing demand for advanced skills and leadership within the industry. The VTCT Skills Diploma in Advanced Techniques and Management Practice in Hairdressing is designed for experienced professionals who work independently, often in supervisory or managerial roles, and possess a high level of technical expertise. This qualification equips learners with the ability to manage staff and resources effectively, develop and promote their business, and refine advanced technical skills. Achieving SCQF Level 7 recognition will ensure this qualification is aligned with Scotland’s national framework, providing clear progression routes and enhancing career opportunities for hairdressing professionals across the country.

The qualification offers a broad and advanced curriculum designed to develop technical expertise, creative skills, and management capabilities within the hair and beauty sector. Learners will cover specialist technical units such as hair colour correction, hair and scalp treatments, and the chemistry of hair and beauty products, alongside creative units like managing the creation of a hair style collection and studio photography principles and practice. In addition, the qualification includes business and leadership-focused units, such as human resource management, sales management, marketing, public relations, and salon management, as well as health, safety, and security management.

 

Learners will also engage in research activities to deepen industry knowledge and apply evidence-based practices. This combination of technical, creative, and managerial content equips professionals to operate at an advanced level, manage teams and resources effectively, and drive business growth within the hair and beauty industry.
