Product Objective

Retail service, supply and administration practitioners work across a range settings, for example in a such as food, fashion, building and automotive and manufacturing. The broad purpose is to support the administration of retail businesses, help provide excellent customer service and ultimately to ensure the efficient flow of goods and services between manufacturers and customers. Daily duties will vary dependent on where they work and whether their work is focused on working in an office or retail environment. Apprentices could also be working with a more skilled customer base.

Where does it lead?

The Retail Service, Supply and Administration Foundation Apprenticeship provides a strong progression pathway into a range of logistics, supply chain, retail and business administration occupations. While there is currently no dedicated logistics Foundation Apprenticeship available, this standard aligns closely with the entry-level skills, behaviours and employability needs identified by employers across the logistics and supply chain sector.

The Foundation Apprenticeship could support progression into occupational routes such as Supply Chain Warehouse Operative, Customer Service Practitioner, Business Administrator Level 2 and Level 3, Procurement and Supply Assistant and Supply Chain Practitioner apprenticeships, alongside longer-term progression into the Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driver C+E Level 2 apprenticeship once age requirements are met. It would also support wider employment opportunities within warehousing, transport administration, stock control, dispatch, fulfilment and customer operations.

This aligns well with the direction of travel emerging through apprenticeship reform, where employers are increasingly seeking broader workforce entry pathways that develop work readiness and transferable skills before apprentices move into full occupational competence.

Why we're considering this product

The foundation Apprenticeship model supports growing employer demand for broader workforce entry pathways into logistics, warehousing and supply chain roles, rather than narrowly occupational routes from day one. In addition, it aligns strongly with our logistics and supply chain strategy and supports the wider direction of travel emerging through apprenticeship reform.
